Today's Topic.......Wasted Resources

In kicking around ideas and searching for material for my Brooks Logan series, I found many interesting topics that piqued my interest. I had an idea for my books, but I needed to find nuggets of truth to collectively bring believability to what I was going to pen. It all started with one of the ideas my dad put in my head many years ago and that was, in his opinion, Harry Truman was the last President to actually be in control of the government. Pop also believed Ronald Reagan attempted to wrestle back control of the Office of the White House and had some success. In those days, like many sons and daughters, I thought my dad was slightly daft. But the older I get, the smarter I realize my father was.

His original statement has always made me think that if the President wasn't fully in control, then who was? My readings and observations would often lead my thoughts back to a shadow government and the quest for a new world order. The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown, was a wonderful novel and The Priory of Sion was featured as an integral part of his riveting story. While the Priory was after a different type of power, they operated in secret, a religious version of a shadow organization. There are so many tales of the Knights Templar and their rise to both power and wealth until their demise at the hands of King Philip IV of France and Pope Clement V. There are many who believe the Vatican is also part of a global conspiracy. The Free Masons, the Bilderberg Group, the Military Industrial Complex, as well as countless others are all rumored to "run the world".

Much like Lord of the Rings (thanks to Ms. Sylvia Eglin who made me read this great novel in the 11th grade), there seemed to be many factions with immense power. Still, there was one ring to rule them all and Sauron had lost that ring, and thus the struggle to destroy it before it could unify Sauron's power with the other factions holding the other nine rings.

So, onward to my story. In my mind, any shadow government or new world order would need nearly unlimited resources to make others bend to their will. Then I discovered an interview Donald Rumsfeld did a short time after being named Secretary of Defense on CBS News. In his time at the podium, he claimed to have discovered 2.3 trillion dollars missing in his audit of the Defense Department budget. 2.3 TRILLION!!! He also stated there could be around 20 billion unaccounted for since the late 1960s, which at the time was roughly the amount of our national deposit.

Then something happened. The 9/11 attacks were carried out the next day and Secretary Rumsfeld never mentioned those missing funds again. In fact, the part of the Pentagon that was damaged by the hijacked plane was rumored to be the budget office investigating those missing funds. I realized I had a very big nugget of truth to build my story around while lending credence to the entirety of the series.

Fast forward to today. Why are so many governmental agencies hesitant at the very least to allow their books to be looked at for fraud and abuse? How many trillions have been usurped from the American citizens? And......if it goes on here in the US, I have to believe it goes on everywhere else on the globe as well.

The biggest threat to our democracy may be the staggering debt we face as a nation. Many Presidents have promised to stop reckless and unchecked spending from happening. Could President Trump finally be the one who finds a solution for our nation's debt? For the sake of our Republic, I hope he can. I hope anyone can! In any event, I believe everything has to be brought into the open for us to see. After all, I certainly do not wish my doctor to prescribe treatment for me without doing an examination first.
